David Shankbone, Occupy Wall Street Crowd- 2011
Occupy Wall Street (OWS) was a protest movement against economic inequality that began in New York City in September 2011. It gave rise to a wider Occupy movement in the United States as well as other countries. The first event was organized by a Canadian anti-consumerist publication: Adbusters Media Foundation. The movement focused on income disparity in the US and economic inequality in general. The most active period for the movement was between 2011 and 2014 and OWS has been credited with reintroducing a strong emphasis on income inequality into broad political discourse.
