A small plump game bird. During the exodus large flocks of quail provided the Israelites with the food God had promised them (Exod 16:13; Num 11:31; Ps 105:40).

Exod 16:13

13In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp.
