Nisan (Ni´san)

The first month of the OT year (Esth 3:7; Neh 2:1). Nisan falls in the spring (March/April) and corresponds to the month previously designated Abib (Exod 13:4; Exod 23:15; Exod 34:18; Deut 16:1). The festival of Passover is celebrated in mid-Nisan, and it also marks the time of Jesus’s crucifixion (Matt 26:17-19).
