The designation of Ira and Gareb, two of David’s “Thirty” soldiers (2Sam 23:38; 1Chr 11:40). The word occurs as the name of a family listed in a genealogy and located in the town of Kiriath-jearim (1Chr 2:53). However, the name originally may have signified that David’s two heroes were from the town of Jattir in the hill country of Judah (Josh 15:48; Josh 21:14).
