Liquid nourishment. The most significant liquid foods are milk, water, and wine. Physically milk and water are essential; wine gives superabundance and elation. These are also used figuratively: God’s wisdom for the exiles is water, milk, and wine (Isa 55:1-5). Jesus’s teaching is living water (John 4:10; John 13-14:10), his death for others covenanting wine.
